Vancouver Fringe Review: Die Hard: The Musical-ish

I’ve never seen the Die Hard series and I only got the core premise of the movie when I saw District 13’s Vancouver Fringe Festival offering, Die Hard: The Musical-ish –  that is, terrorists takes on hostages, wife of protagonist is one of the hostages, and protagonist saves the day or in this case, Christmas.

But I’m not saying I didn’t have fun because I did.

Die Hard: The Musical-ish does not apologize for anything, from the low budget production, to the technical imperfections, nor the really poor sound quality of the backing tracks because it did present an opportunity to get investors from the audience for a full scale production, a running joke that might also be an actual, serious plea.

While short on technical and set presentations, the cast and book makes up for it, what with its wit and amusing parody songs that the audience really enjoyed.

Written & directed by Mark Vandenberg, Die Hard: The Musical-ish continues to play at Studio 1398 in Granville Island as part of the 2018 Vancouver Fringe Festival  until September 16.
