The 1989 Broadway musical, City of Angels, featuring music by Cy Coleman (Sweet Charity), book by Larry Gelbart (A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum), and lyrics by David Zippel (The Goodbye Girl) will premiere in Canada thanks to the Putting It Together (PIT) Collective, a group of local Vancouver artists who are proud to be part of Vancouver’s global reputation as a hub of talent and creativity.

“City of Angels” takes place in Los Angeles in the late 1940s. A New York crime novelist (Stine) agrees, at the behest of a Hollywood producer, to adapt his latest novel into a screenplay but how much is he willing to sacrifice for a taste of fame and fortune?
Playing homage to the film noir genre of the 1940’s City of Angels played on Broadway from 1989 to 1992, winning numerous award including Best Musical at the Tony Awards, the Drama Desk Awards and twice at the Lawrence Olivier Awards, for the original and revival productions.

Working actor and Producer Christopher Shyer (Mamma Mia) assembles a Canadian powerhouse cast that includes award winning actor, director, and singer Jennifer Copping, who also directs this Vancouver production, Michael Lomenda, Jersey Boy’s Nick Massi on stage and film, Janet Gigliotti, who just completed a successful run playing Judy Garland in the Canadian premiere of “End of the Rainbow”, Jessie nominated Paul Herbert, TV and film personalities Donal Thoms-Cappello, Crystal Balint, Caitlin Clugston, Tim Perez, John R. Taylor, and Toronto theatre’s Miranda MacDougall.
Directed by Jennifer Copping and co-directed by Sylvia M. Zaradic, The Canadian premiere of City of Angels will play at Vancouver’s Performance Works in Granville Island from July 8-17 2017.
