Now who is or are the Wonderheads?
WONDERHEADS is a multi-award winning physical theatre company specializing in mask performance and exquisite visual storytelling for adults and children. Their work is performed in full-face mask, a wordless form that mixes European larval mask traditions with character mask styles, resulting in a whimsical, wordless craft rarely seen on North American stages. Their three mainstage productions (Grim and Fischer, LOON and The Middle of Everywhere) have garnered multiple accolades, and they were recently selected as one of ten finalists in Scion Motivate, a national contest recognizing young entrepreneurs in the creative arts.
When the ‘Heads are not busy touring to communities throughout North America, they can be found in their home base of Portland, Oregon, hatching plans for new and devious ways to evoke a sense of joy and wonder in all they meet.
“I was struck by its sheer inventiveness, its out-of-the-box creativity, its whimsy, its heart … I have thought about it often since.” —Marsha Lederman, the Globe and Mail
Wonderheads made their mark on the Fringe in 2011 when their show Grim and Fischer won the Public Market Pick of the Fringe and the Cultchivating the Fringe. Their production, The Middle of Everywhere, will be part of this year’s festival.
