“The time is Renaissance England, where two brothers, Nick and Nigel Bottom, are desperate to write a hit play. But how can they when the competition is the biggest star of the era, everyone’s favorite bard: William Shakespeare?
So they seek out the soothsayer Nostradamus.
But not the Nostradamus, his nephew Thomas, who gives our heroes a completely original idea from the future – write a play with songs.
And thus, the first ever musical is born. But not without much mayhem, madness, and musical mishaps. There is indeed Something Rotten! – and it will have audiences rolling in the aisles.”
I’ve set my eyes on this one and will make sure to attend the pre-Broadway engagement this coming Spring 2015.
The Book of Mormon director, Casey Nicholaw, is currently working on premiering Something Rotten!, a new and original musical billed as “Broadway’s Next Big Thing” at Seattle’s 5th Avenue Theatre, where other Broadway musicals such as Aladdin, Big Fish, and Hairspray, among others, held its world premiere.
Casting had been announced today for the developmental lab in New York and is headed by Spamalot and Legally Blonde’s Christian Borle, Baby Its You’s Beth Leavel, Shrek’s Bryan d’Arcy James, and The Producers’ Brad Oscar. The cast indicated apparently is not the final cast yet, when it makes its way to Seattle, but from this announcement alone, this musical does look very promising.
Tickets are secured and will be at the World Premiere at Seattle’s 5th Avenue Theatre in May 2015!
